Sun zenithal position

The black spot, in the map center, shows where the sun falls vertically on earth. This is called the sun zenithal position or true mid-day. Average mid-day is materialized by a red vertical line in front of hour 12.
All year round, sun zenithal position follows an 8 form curve, named analemma. It shows how real sun zenithal position dri
fts throughout the year. The difference between average and real sun time can then be measured and is called “Time equation”.
